Solar FAQs

How much does Solar PV cost?

Solar PV, or photovoltaic, is a technology that harnesses the power of the sun to generate electricity. By converting sunlight into usable energy, solar PV systems provide a clean and sustainable alternative to traditional energy sources. Through the use of solar panels, homeowners and businesses can tap into this renewable resource, reducing their reliance on fossil fuels, lowering energy costs, and contributing to a greener future.

How long does it take to install?

A typical installation will take 2-5 days. This can of course vary depending on the size and logistics of the installation.

What is a G98/G99 application?

All Solar installations must first be approved by the DNO (Distribution Network Operator). In our region it is UKPN. This approval takes place by submitting an application form detailing your current electrical set up and your planned installation. This is something that we take care of for our customers and is included in the package.

How do you get on the roof, and do I need to provide scaffolding?

Depending on the height, type and size of your property, we will work out the best method to install the panels. Scaffold is usually the preferred option, but not always. We will discuss these options when we conduct our initial survey. Roof access is taken care of by us, so you don’t need to worry.

What is an inverter?

An inverter is a crucial part of the sSolar PV system. This is a piece of kit, roughly the size of a large printer, that converter the D.C. electricity generated by the solar panels from the sun to A.C. electricity that can be readily used in our homes.

Is my Roof suitable?

When we conduct the initial survey, will check the orientation of your roof along with the type of tiles, inclination, shading and structure of the roof. All of these aspects will help to make an informed decision about whether solar is right for you and your circumstances.

How much money will I save?

It is suggested that on average you will save 30-35% on your electricity bills by installing solar alone. A further 30-35% can be saved by the installation of battery storage alongside solar.

Does my roof need to be south facing?

No. Although south-facing is optimal, there could be other options such as east-to-west arrays, taking advantage of the eastern rising sun in the morning and setting western sun in the afternoon. Ground mount solar may also be an option if you perhaps have a portion of your garden that is unused and unshaded.

What is battery storage?

This is where we install a battery storage system either as part of your solar pv system or directly to your home consumer unit. Battery storage provides a way to keep any excess electricity generated during the day and use it later once the sun has gone down. There are also incentives by some energy providers to charge your battery up at a reduced cost through the early hours of the morning and use it later during peak times.

How long until my system pays for itself?

Depending on your energy consumption and the size of your Solar PV system, it can take anywhere between 1 – 10 years for your system to pay for itself. The majority of people see a return on their investment after year 3. We will provide these calculations for you in our proposal so you can make a good informed choice before making any decisions.
